Accidentia Chapter 4 by GemHeart

Vivi’s POV

I glanced about. The bay was stretched over in front of me, some marshy grass sticking out near the water. Ilia took a step into it as I collapsed on the ground, afraid to touch anything, for fear it might die.
Ilia looked back at me. "Are you okay, Vivi?" she asked, her hand hovering over the water, and the water stretching up to it like wet clay.
I shook my head, hands crossed on my chest. "What am I gonna tell my parents?" I whispered. "'Oh, hey, Mom, I just killed all my classmates.'" I said, and then added sarcastically, "She's gonna be like, 'Honey, did they annoy you?' And I'm gonna have to say, 'Oh, no, not this time, but the school suddenly started making all the survivors of my little accident into monsters and I met this girl who can control water!""
"Your description of me isn't very flattering," she cracked. Then Ilia stayed silent for a moment. "I just realized I had it today," she admitted.
I sighed. "Mine's been growing, I think. What are you gonna say to your parents?"
"I won't say anything," she said. "It'll be safer this way."
I pulled out my phone, and unlocked it. "We should at least call them," I said urgently. "Tell them we're on some sort of field trip or something."
Ilia said, "They're gonna hear about the school soon. Everyone's dead. You killed them."
"Don't say that," I hissed, "It's terrible. I... didn't mean to kill anyone."
"Maybe they'll think we died in the school," said Ilia. "But they'll find the bodies of the monsters… " she sat down with me, playing with her newfound power. She had a thoughtful expression her face.
"I'm sure the police will cover it up," I said bitterly. "They always do."
"How do you know that?"
"My mom's an officer and my dad's a college professor of criminology and psychology and all the mind-related "logies"."
"You're pretty smart for your age," she said quietly. I smiled for a moment but immediately snapped back to my usual demeanor as she asked aloud, "Where will we go?"
"I don't know."
"Maybe there's more like us..." she said slowly.
"Looks like there is," I said, and showed her the international news on my phone, under the crime and missing child reports. She scrolled through the news stories, several of which were in different languages, and then pulled them up on her phone to be sure.

-Today a child went missing. The police do not have any further information besides the fact that said child was told to have unusual powers, which is under investigation.

All of them played mostly the same tune, but with foggy and mysterious details. Ilia bit her lip and turned towards the bay. "You think we can do more with our powers?" she asked. "Maybe we can use them to find a place to hide..." she took a step forward, and a foothold made of swirling water appeared over the shallow end of the harbor.
"I have an idea," I said.

We walked over to a higher point near the harbor, where it was much deeper.
"Okay," I said. "Apparently you can walk on water as well."
Ilia smiled. "Apparently, Ms. Obvious. Okay. So, how do we find a place to go?" she asked, but it was more of a statement than a question, like she wasn't exactly expecting an answer. "Maybe we could try-"
"Don't you be snappy with me," I said suddenly.
She looked at me, her face like an anime character when someone says something dumb and they're like, 'really? You're gonna do that now, of all places?' And that's basically what she said.
"We shouldn't fight," she said, and I immediately regretted what I did and gave an impish smile.
"Yeah," I said.. "Let's find out what's going on..." I glanced at her. "I hope this all works out."
She smiled. "I hope it does too."

Ilia’s POV
___________________________________________________________________________________
I opened my eyes. I had just fainted, I hadn’t -how to put it delicately? - DIED. The girl was kneeling down next to me, with her hands up, looking afraid to touch me.

"It’s okay,” I said. “I won’t hurt you.” From the expression on her face, I knew I had said the wrong thing. “No.” she said. “Stay away from me!” I ignored her command. “Stop! Do you want to end up like the rest of them? Decayed?”

I looked at her, then around the room at the twenty or so dead children, then back at her terrified expression. I decided not to bug her. So of course, me being me, I did. “Do you want a pipe blasting water in your face?”

She looked at my not-so-serious expression and laughed. “You’re like me, aren’t you?” I looked at her, an elfish grin on my face. “If you mean the subject of a terrible accident that only started today, then yes. However, if you mean that I can kill a classroom of people... I’m afraid we’re not so similar, my friend.”

She smiled at me, and asked what I could do. “Well...” I said, “I’m not so sure, but I think I can control...” I grabbed a cup of water that was on the teacher’s desk. I brought it over to where the girl was sitting on the ground. I tipped it over using my eyesight, and then, moving my hands as if making a snowball, I made the water into a bubble, floating above us in the air.

The girl was astonished. But not for long. She waved her hand toward the window, and it opened. Green leaves from the tree outside were plucked off by an unexpected cold wind. As they came in the window, they turned colors usually associated with autumn, like red, orange, and brown. they formed a circle and started dancing in the air all around us.

I was amazed. From the look on the girl’s face she was, too. I didn’t think she’d ever done that. An awkward silence followed, which I decided to break by changing the subject.

“So, uh, what’s you’re name?” I asked. “Viviane. But since we both have had- accidents, and we might as well be friends because we might work together someday... You can call me Vivi. My friends do.” I smiled, showing her that I was glad to be her friend, and said, “I’m Ilia. It’s nice to meet you.”

We walked out of the room. There was chaos in the hallways. The monsters were still out there. Vivi looked at me. I nodded, understanding what she meant. I made a big water force field around everyone except the monsters. Vivi looked at me again and stomped.

A wave of black went all throughout the hall. It killed the monsters. They decayed in a second. I released the force fields. They all ran away from me and Vivi. They were probably scared of us after seeing what we could do. Even I was pretty scared of myself!

Vivi and I walked off the campus. I could, surprisingly, tell where the nearest large body of water was and how to get there. We headed towards Chesapeake Bay, where we could go somewhere where no one knew how unusual we were in reality. I thought for a second about my family, then reprimanded myself. They could be hurt with me around. I knew what I was doing was better for them.

I walked off, never turning back.

Accidentia Chapter 2, Vivi's POV

By GemHeart (KN, Fiction Club): Chapter Two:

Viviane's POV
I dreaded getting up for school that morning. I was always getting hassled by kids older than me until they got a fist right between the eyes, but even then they'd make fun of me and insult my intelligence. My parents always said that if I just paid attention in school that I would be making straight A's and get into Yale, yet I was scraping by with C's.
I was an Advanced Placement kid. I was whizzing by in 6th grade and above, so my teacher had me doing AP worksheets while she was teaching the rest of the class. Still, I had insisted to my parents that I wanted to still be a 6th grade student, so I could with kids my own age, but they wanted me in classes with 17 year olds. We came to the conclusion that my teacher, Mr. Y, would give me the harder work while being in the classroom setting I wanted. That's the privilege of being the granddaughter of the principal.
I got up that morning feeling rather grumpy. I pulled on a sweater, jeans, and combat boots. I dressed pretty emoish, and my dark brown shoulder-length hair added to that image. Once I was out the door, I made sure I had my backpack and my books, as well as the summer homework about Trig.
When I reached the classroom, Mr. Y greeted me cheerily, taking my homework. I was a little late, but he didn't mind. "Go grab a seat," he said. "It'll be yours for the year." The only one empty was near the back, close to the window.
As soon as I sat down, a few girls and boys began talking. A huge noise erupted from somewhere in the room, and Mr. Y turned about.
"Stupid heater," he said. "Give me a second, kids." He walked from the room, pointing at me. "You're in charge while I'm gone, Viviane." He smiled, and I walked up to his desk and sat down.
"How was your summer?" I asked everyone.
Immediately people started talking. Gary had went to camp, Lucy had been to an uncle's, and Vick had decided she would stay home. A few went on vacation, one even went to visit his rich aunt up in D.C. My summer wasn't as eventful, so I told them so.
"I mostly just studied." I said.
"Bookworm!" shouted one. Supposed to be a threat, I guess, but these 6th graders had some of the cleanest mouths I knew. No swearing in Mr. Y's classroom.
I laughed and stood up. Immediately, something that looked like a dark wave, travelling beneath the floor, started spreading quickly from under my feet. It hit the first row of students, then the next, and the next. It even traveled over to Mr. Y as he came in, and as it hit everyone, a terrible thing happened.
They began wilting like flowers. Skin dropped off and shriveled, and eyes rolled back until they were nothing but bony body bags. I looked around, alarmed, until I realized it had happened again.
My ability to rot away people just by touching them. But this was next level. I had discovered this when I was 6, and I had accidently killed the family cat by holding her too long. No one saw me kill her, and even the vet said it was a natural death: but I knew better. At first, it only worked on animals, but then it evolved into if I was near a person too long. Some people weren't affected, but many were. But this?
I had killed an either classroom of children without lifting a finger...

A girl rushed into the classroom, turning and locking it hastily. About what sounded like 4 pairs of fists pounded on the doors. The girl, who was slightly taller than me, had her tawny hair hoisted up in a high ponytail. She was wearing a teal tank top, jeans, white high-top Converse, and a terrified expression.
She had noticed.
All around me, the children lay on their desks, dead.

Chapter One by ArtistGirl

Ilia’s POV

“Ilia! Come on, Time for school! It’s the first day of eighth grade, and you don’t want to be late!” I was jostled awake by the sound of my mother’s voice. I groaned, and rolled over. My mother, not amused, marched over to my bed with her hands on her hips. “Ilia! You’re going to be late! Again! Get dressed, we have to leave in fifteen minutes!” She stood there, waiting for me to get out of bed. Like the obnoxious child that I was, I stayed in bed, not moving. Let me stay in bed. I’d rather miss school than wake up. My mother, knowing what she had to do because we’d gone through this routine last year in seventh grade, grabbed my hand and dragged me out of bed.

I groaned again, and stumbled towards my closet, jerking open the door and closing it behind me. My mother, smiling at her accomplishment, was still in my room when I strutted out in a teal tank top, ripped jeans, white converse high tops, and my hair in its signature high ponytail with a teal scrunchie. Glad I was finally ready for school, she led me out the the door of my room.

I grabbed my backpack and lunch money, made a face at myself in the hallway mirror, and ran to the car. After a ten-minute drive, we arrived at school. I rushed inside, slipping into an empty seat with a minute to spare.

Alright, class, we’re going to start unpacking right now.” said a tall dark-haired lady. “Take out your summer homework and put it in this blue bucket right here.”

A mad scramble followed, mainly around the bucket Ms. Daniels was pointing to. I walked up after everyone else sat down, saving myself a lot of walking around and avoiding getting tripped, or elbowed in the stomach. I’m smart like that.

We put all our extra school supplies in a closet in the back of the room. When everyone was unpacked, Ms. Daniels walked to the front of the room and took a stack of papers from her desk. She passed them out to our rows, and I studied mine. It was a schedule.

“Class, this is your schedule for what class you’re taking in each period. I hope you will keep these where they are easily accessible, until you get the flow of things. Maybe keep it in your binder, or a homework folder, or somewhere its not apt to get lost.’ She glared at a particularly irresponsible boy who had just shoved his paper in his desk.

School went on in this fashion. Ms. Daniels taught History and Science. At recess, I sat with a group of girls that looked like they were the popular group in this class. It was important for me to get on their good side if I ever wanted to be popular this year.

But then I saw how mean they were. Their matching clean, bright white heels hurt my eyes as they walked down the hallway towards the water fountain. I saw them push people out of the way as they made room for the squad of four walk down the hallway side-by-side in a line.

They got to the water fountain. A seventh grader was there, drinking water. One of the nastiest of the squad shoved her out of the way. She fell, and broke her head on the pavement. It gushed blood, staining the ground a rich crimson. That made me mad. That made me angry. That made me infuriated. I wished the water fountain would explode with water in their faces.

It did.

The girls, horrified, turned to look at me. They were so angry, they looked like they would turn into monsters.

They did.

I ran down the hallway, trying to find a room with a lock on the door. The four monsters were still chasing me, gaining on me. I finally found a room with a lock on the door. Bursting in, I turned around and locked the door behind me. I leaned against the door, eyes closed, panting. Then I noticed who was in the room.

A girl was standing in the middle of the room. She looked like a sixth-grader. She was about an inch shorter than me. She was wearing a light brown sweatshirt, black jeans, and combat boots, with her short, dark brown hair barely grazing her shoulders.

She stared at me.

I stared back.

For all around her, was about twenty decayed children.

I screamed, then everything went black.
