Any tips on shading a rose?

lunamoonlight First of all, establish where the light is coming from in a 3d sense (to the left or right, higher or lower, in front or behind the rose). Then, for any spot where one petal would cast a shadow upon another, draw a hard shadow ( a shadow that does not blend). For anywhere the light is not hitting, such as the bottom assuming the light is higher, shade it so that the darker color blends into the base color (the red you used). For anywhere the light is hitting a lot, like some petals that are close to the light source, make a soft highlight (lighter red that blends).

Queeny 2. establish the light source, then add shadows
Queeny 3. Add highlights
Queeny 4. blend the colors
Queeny 5. airbrush shadows
