I've been reading a lot of mangas lately, and one thing I've noticed a lot of them do (not all of them, but a lot) that really bothers me is how there's not really any "ugly" people.
Hear me out, I recently read a manga where the female lead is suppose to be extremely beautiful while everyone else around her is super ugly. The manga describes the people around her as "so ugly that not even God would look at his own creations" yet they look fine to me??? Like, from the way the describe them I would've expected something a lot more grotesque, but they just have smaller eyes, like what?? This is something I've seen a lot, like where a girl gets bullied for her "horrible" looks yet she looks exactly like everyone else.
It's not that big of a deal, but it's noticeable and I guess it just kinda ticks me off.

GemHeart Yeah, IKR?! In one of my mangas I made I made one of the characters ugly and was wondering why I don't find that in shojo. In animes like Bleach, you find ugly people everywhere, I wonder if it's just a shojo thing?

lunamoonlight I have not read that manga or very many others, but I have seen a few animes and it is quite possible to make ugly characters (Natsuhiko Koyama from Assassination Classroom for example) but for the mangas I have read I have not seen any either.
Queeny Yeah, this applies more to mangas than anime. I've actually seen a lot of popular animes have a wide variety of facial features in the cast (Attack On Titan, for example)
